Advisor Responsibilities

The primary advisor of a BMS student is his/her Thesis Advisor. Besides supervising the thesis research and the scientific training of a student, BMS Thesis Advisors are expected to fulfill the following responsibilities:

  1. Provide financial support of the student, including tuition/fees and stipend.
  2. Provide guidance to ensure that the student completes the Research Proposition Exam in the Fall quarter of his/her second year, the Advancement to Candidacy Exam by the Fall quarter of his/her third year, and Thesis Defense by the Spring quarter of his/her fifth year.
  3. Submit a formal evaluation of the student at the end of each academic year.
