Research Interests:

The Microcirculation laboratory is focused on analysis of cardiovascular disease by molecular analysis of inflammatory mechanisms. We have formulated and investigate a new hypothesis for the origin of inflammation, cell and organ failure due to "auto-digestion".

The current mission is to examine: - mechanisms that lead to self-digestion by pancreatic enzymes, - interventions against auto-digestion. In addition we study alternative trigger mechanisms for inflammation - the molecular control of cell activation by fluid shear stress, - the genetic mechanisms for microvascular inflammation in arterial hypertension - the biomechanical mechanisms for lymph pumping and dysfunction of the primary valve system in the initial lymphatics as source for inflammation.
