Professor of Psychiatry, Medical Director of Mental Health Clinical Research Center
M.D., University of Alabama, Birmingham, AL
Research Interests:

The focus of my laboratory's research is the identification of genes for psychiatric illness by linkage and positional cloning studies of families with bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and depression. We are also using functional genomics and microarray gene profiling studies of animal models to identify possible disease genes. We have recently identified a gene for bipolar disorder and schizophrenia on chromosome 22, and are testing other candidates genes in several other genomic regions.
