Research Interests:

Molecular and cellular basis of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Mutations in only three genes, encoding the integral membrane proteins ß-amyloid precursor protein (ß-APP) and the two presenilin proteins (PS-1 and PS-2) account for almost all known cases of familial Alzheimer's disease (FAD). We are currently investigating 1) whether the forms of ß-amyloid relevant to AD are produced via the cell-cell interaction mediated by the intercellular binding of ß-APP with the cell-surface expressed presenilins and 2) the normal signaling events that occur in the cell as a result of this intercellular interaction.
