Elena Pasquale
Adjunct Professor of Pathology; Professor, Burnham Institute
Ph.D., University of Parma, Italy
Research Interests:

The Eph family of receptor tyrosine kinases and their ligands, the ephrins, play an important role in establishing and modulating neural circuits. They also take part in the formation of blood vessels, including the blood vessels that feed tumors, and regulate the malignant properties of tumor cells. Interestingly, signaling by Eph receptors requires cell contact because both the receptors and their ligands are on the cell surface. Furthermore, the ephrin ligands can also transmit signals. The objective of Dr. Pasquale's research is to investigate the signaling mechanisms of Eph receptors and ephrins, in order to understand their role in normal physiology and in pathological conditions such as cancer and neurological diseases. This knowledge will help finding Eph receptors- and ephrins-based disease treatments.
