Research Interests:

The research in my laboratory aims to uncover the genes and the signaling pathways responsible for tumor metastasis. Our experimental approaches combine molecular biology tools, mouse tumor models, functional genomics and in vivo imaging techniques. Our previous studies identified the transcription factor Twist, a regulator of early embryogenesis, as a key player in tumor metastasis and established the epithelial-mensenchymal transition (EMT) program as a crucial pathway activated in metastatic cancers. Currently, we focus on 1) dissect the signaling and effector pathways that link Twist to EMT and tumor metastasis, 2) develop mouse models to determine how Twist and EMT contribute to tumor metastasis and normal development in vivo, 3) identify and characterize novel genes involved in human cancer metastasis.
