Dr. Bigby's research laboratory focuses on the 5-lipoxygenase pathway of arachidonic acid metabolism, its molecular regulation, and the role of dysregulation of this pathway in diseases of the airway. This work examines mechanisms of gene expression in inflammatory cells that produce leukotrienes and the downstream consequences of expression of these genes. Structure-function relationships of the protein products of these genes are also a focus of investigation.
