Research Interests:
The Schork lab, known at UCSD as the Polymorphism Research Laboratory (PRL), focuses on all aspects of human genetic variation, including 1) the discovery of genetic variation via DNA sequencing; 2) the determination of the existence of particular genetic variations in an individual (i.e., 'genotyping'); 3) understanding the impact of genetic variation at the molecular level; 4) understanding the impact of genetic variation at physiological and clinical levels; 5) characterizing the influence of genetic variation in the population at large; and 6) understanding the evolutionary significance of genetic variation.
Much of the research in the PRL is concerned with theoretical aspects of polymorphism and its use in epidemiological and clinical studies. Thus, for example, the PRL pursues research into the construction of genetic maps, the use of genetic maps for mapping genetic loci that influence complex traits, statistical methods for linkage and association analysis, and study design and methodology for population genetic studies.
