Research Interests:
Regulation of vascular smooth excitation-contraction coupling and mechanisms of hypoxic pulmonary vasoconstriction. Roles of ion channels and intracellular calcium in vascular smooth muscle cell contraction, proliferation and apoptosis. Pathogenic mechanisms of idiopathic and thromboembolic pulmonary arterial hypertension. Our work utilizes vascular smooth muscle and endothelial cells isolated from mice, rats, and human subjects (patients undergoing lung transplantation and pulmonary thromboendarterectomy) and employs combined techniques of electrophysiology (patch clamp), digital imaging fluorescence microscopy, cell and molecular biology.
