Release of neuroactive hormones (neuropeptides, catecholamines, arachidonic acid metabolites) from brain, spinal cord and adrenal medulla; systems which modulate the processing of information relevant to nociception and autonomic outflow. We are also interested in the role of non-neuronal cells in altering spinal excitability, particularly in pain transmission.
