Peter D. Wagner
Professor of Medicine
M.D., University of Sydney, Australia
Research Interests:

Theoretical and experimental investigation of pulmonary gas exchange in animals and man. Development and application of new methods for measuring ventilation-perfusion relationships. Mechanisms/effects of hypoxic vasoconstriction. Effects of O2 breathing, altitude, and exercise on lung function. Determinants of maximum O2 uptake in exercising muscle. Theoretical and experimental exploration of convective and diffusive phenomena that interact to set maximum O2 uptake. Interaction between the biophysics of O2 supply and the biochemistry of O2 utilization. Relationship between muscle structure and O2 transport function. Molecular regulation of muscle angiogenesis. Role of VEGF and HIF-1a in adaptive angiogenic responses to hypoxia, exercise, and disease. Transgenic models of altered angiogenic potential.
